The Travelling Kitchen offers a hands-on incursion program, run at crèches, kindergartens and primary schools all over Melbourne. Programs are delivered within the school classroom or other areas within the school, with all ingredients and most equipment provided.
Students will be delivered a workshop that incorporates hygiene and safety, recipe recognition, practical cooking skills, sensory testing and nutrition education. Programs are tailored to the age level of the students, the topics currently being covered within the classroom and the requests from the class room teacher (see Workshops for more information.)
- Workshops can be designed to run a series of related topics over consecutive weeks.
- Curriculum material is also provided by The Travelling Kitchen after the practical component is completed, as follow up.
- All programs have been developed in accordance with the National Curriculum as well as the Go For Your Life Program.
- Please note that where a school garden is available, ingredients from the garden can be incorporated into the program.
Best of all, the program is planned for you as a teacher, all you have to do on the day of the workshop is join in the FUN!
All students receive a show bag which includes a paper chef hat, recipe card, worksheets and information cards on healthy eating and cooking at home for them to share with their families and most often, will get the chance to take home their finished product.
The workshops run for 45-60 minutes. Staff from the travelling kitchen will set up before the workshop and at the conclusion pack down and clean up.
